Looking for something worthwhile to watch on Netflix this January? Here are three underrated gems that deserve your attention.

Number 24 (2024) chronicles Norway's greatest WWII hero, Gunnar Sønsteby. Set in 1940 during Nazi occupation, this newly released film follows Gunnar, a young accountant who joins the resistance as Agent 24. Through masterful disguise and strategic sabotage, he works to undermine Nazi control over Norway. The film offers a fresh perspective on WWII resistance through the lens of this lesser-known but remarkable hero.

Public Enemies (2009) revives the classic gangster genre with Michael Mann's stylish direction. Johnny Depp delivers one of his last great performances as John Dillinger, the notorious bank robber pursued by FBI agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale). The film excels with its period authenticity, strong performances, and stunning cinematography by Dante Spinotti. While not reaching the heights of Mann's Heat or Manhunter, it's a compelling cat-and-mouse thriller worth revisiting.

The Age of Adaline (2015) stars Blake Lively as a woman who mysteriously stopped aging at 29 due to a freak accident in 1937. The film follows Adaline as she navigates eternal youth, avoiding close relationships until she falls for Ellis (Michael Huisman). Complications arise when she discovers Ellis's father William (Harrison Ford) is her former love from decades ago. Despite its fantastical premise, Lively's grounded performance and the film's committed storytelling create an engaging romantic drama about the price of immortality.

All three films are currently streaming on Netflix.
