Apple's new Share Item Location feature expands the Find My platform by allowing users to securely share the location of AirTag-equipped items with friends and airlines. This feature integrates with the existing Find My system and is available in the iOS 18.2 beta update.

Through partnerships with over 15 major airlines including Air Canada, British Airways, Delta Air Lines, and United, passengers can now track lost items more effectively. A collaboration with SITA will extend this service to over 500 airlines and 2,800 airports worldwide through their WorldTracer baggage tracking system.

To use Share Item Location:

  • Open the Find My app
  • Create a Share Item Location link
  • Recipients can view the item's location on a map
  • Location updates display automatically with timestamps

Security features include:

  • End-to-end encryption for all shared tracking links
  • Identity verification requirement for accessing tracking information
  • Authentication through Apple Account or registered airline email
  • Limited access to Apple Partner airlines only

Airlines will begin implementing these tracking assistance services in the coming months, significantly improving the travel experience for Apple device users globally.
