A standard competitive match in CS:GO consists of 30 rounds in total. The first team to win 16 rounds wins the match. If both teams reach 15 rounds each, the match ends in a tie (in regular competitive matchmaking).

Each round lasts 1 minute and 55 seconds (1:55), with a 15-second freeze time at the beginning of each round. However, the round can end earlier if either all players on one team are eliminated or the objective is completed (bomb explosion or defusal).

For professional matches and tournaments, the format is slightly different. If teams tie at 15-15, the game goes into overtime. Overtime consists of 6 additional rounds (3 rounds per side), and teams need to win 4 rounds to secure victory. If the overtime also ends in a tie, another overtime period begins until a winner is determined.

In casual game modes, the round structure differs:

  • Casual matches are first to 8 rounds (maximum 15 rounds)
  • Wingman (2v2) matches are first to 9 rounds (maximum 16 rounds)
  • Short competitive matches are first to 9 rounds (maximum 16 rounds)

The economy system in CS:GO is built around this round structure, with teams managing their money across multiple rounds to buy weapons and equipment strategically. Each round's outcome affects the next round's buying potential, making every round crucial for the overall match outcome.
