How Many Rounds Are Played in a CS:GO Match | Complete Map Guide
In Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) competitive matches, each map is typically played for a maximum of 30 rounds in regulation time. The first team to win 16 rounds wins the map.
For a standard best-of-three (BO3) match, where maps 1 and 2 are played, each map follows the same 30-round format. This means you'll play:
- Map 1: Maximum 30 rounds
- Map 2: Maximum 30 rounds
If teams are tied 15-15 at the end of regulation time on either map, overtime rules come into effect. Each overtime consists of 6 additional rounds (3 rounds per side), and teams need to win 4 rounds to secure the overtime victory. If teams tie again in overtime, another overtime period begins until a winner is determined.
I should note that each round in CS:GO lasts for 1 minute and 55 seconds (1:55) by default in competitive mode, with a 15-second freeze time at the start of each round. The total maximum playing time for maps 1 and 2 combined, excluding overtimes, would be approximately 2 hours.
For casual matches or other game modes, the round count and timing can differ, but in professional and competitive matchmaking, these are the standard round numbers you'll encounter.
Remember that not all maps will go to the full 30 rounds - a team can win earlier by reaching 16 rounds first. For example, if a team wins 16-5, only 21 rounds were played on that map.
