Wingman in CS:GO is a competitive 2v2 game mode that Valve introduced in 2017 as part of Operation Hydra. It's essentially a shortened version of the traditional 5v5 competitive matches, played on smaller, specially designed maps.

In this mode, two players team up against another pair, with the first team to win 9 rounds claiming victory. Each round follows the same basic rules as regular competitive CS:GO - terrorists try to plant the bomb or eliminate the counter-terrorists, while counter-terrorists aim to prevent the bomb plant or defuse it if planted.

What makes Wingman unique is its focus on close-quarters combat and quick decision-making. Maps are significantly smaller than standard competitive layouts, featuring only one bombsite instead of two. This creates intense, fast-paced matches that typically last 15-20 minutes, compared to the 45-60 minutes of traditional competitive games.

The economy system in Wingman mirrors competitive play but with adjusted starting money and loss bonuses to suit the shorter format. Players start each half with $800 and must manage their economy carefully to maintain good weapon buys throughout the match.

Popular Wingman maps include shortened versions of classic locations like Lake, Shortdust (based on Dust2), and Rialto. These maps are specifically optimized for 2v2 play, ensuring balanced gameplay and strategic depth despite the reduced player count.

The ranking system follows the same structure as competitive matchmaking, with players earning ranks from Silver I to Global Elite based on their performance. However, Wingman ranks are separate from regular competitive ranks, allowing players to progress independently in each mode.

This game mode is perfect for players who want competitive CS:GO experience but don't have time for full matches, or those who prefer practicing with just one teammate. It's also an excellent way to improve individual skills and team coordination in a more focused environment.
