CS2 FPS Guide: How to Cap and Uncap Frame Rate for Better Performance
Frames per second (FPS) in CS2 directly impact gameplay smoothness and performance. Here's how to control your FPS settings effectively.
What Are Frames Per Second? FPS represents how many times your screen updates per second. While 60 FPS is sufficient for most games, CS2 players often aim for 90-120 FPS due to the game's focus on quick reactions. However, anything between 60-90 FPS is typically adequate for most players.
How to Cap FPS
- Enable Developer Console:
- Open CS2 Settings
- Go to Game tab
- Set "Enable Developer Console" to Yes
- Press ~ to open console
- Use the command:
fps_max YOUR_DESIRED_FPS_VALUE
(Use values between 60-240, or 0 to uncap)
How to Uncap FPS Simply enter

Remember: Most players won't notice improvements beyond 90 FPS, so focus on stable performance rather than maximum frames.
