HBO Cancels Hollywood Satire 'The Franchise' After Single Season
HBO's satirical series "The Franchise" has been canceled after its eight-episode first season, which concluded in November. The show, created by Jon Brown and executive produced by Armando Iannucci and Sam Mendes, offered a satirical look at modern superhero movie production in Hollywood.
The series featured an ensemble cast including Himesh Patel, Aya Cash, Jessica Hynes, Billy Magnussen, Lolly Adefope, Richard E. Grant, and Daniel Brühl, with notable guest appearances from Katherine Waterston and Nick Kroll.
Despite receiving generally positive reviews during its October premiere, HBO has decided not to proceed with a second season. The network expressed gratitude towards the creative team in their statement, saying they look forward to future collaborations with the talent involved.
The show's finale left viewers with an unresolved cliffhanger, as Patel's character Daniel, a first assistant director, receives a mysterious promotion offer from his studio boss. This cancellation represents one of the first major renewal decisions of 2025.
All episodes of "The Franchise" remain available for streaming on Max.
