How Many Rounds Are In CS:GO Competitive & Casual Matches?
In Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO), a standard competitive match consists of 30 rounds, with teams playing 15 rounds on each side (Terrorist and Counter-Terrorist). The first team to win 16 rounds wins the match.
Each round lasts 1 minute and 55 seconds (1:55), and teams can win rounds by either:
- Eliminating all enemy players
- Successfully planting and detonating the bomb (Terrorists)
- Defusing the planted bomb (Counter-Terrorists)
- Running down the clock (Counter-Terrorists if bomb isn't planted)
If the score reaches 15-15, the match enters overtime in official competitive settings. Overtime consists of 6 additional rounds (3 rounds per side) with teams needing to win 4 rounds to secure victory. If teams tie again, another overtime period begins until a winner is determined.
For casual game modes, the round structure differs:
- Casual matches: First to 8 rounds (maximum 15 rounds)
- Wingman (2v2): First to 9 rounds (maximum 16 rounds)
- Short Competitive: First to 9 rounds (maximum 16 rounds)
In professional tournaments, matches are typically played in a best-of-three (BO3) or best-of-five (BO5) format, with each individual game following the standard 30-round structure with overtime rules if necessary.
The round-based system in CS:GO ensures balanced gameplay by allowing both teams to play equal rounds on each side, as certain maps can favor either Terrorists or Counter-Terrorists.
