Huawei Plans to Unveil Revolutionary Rollable Screen Device on March 20
Huawei is teasing a groundbreaking rollable screen device announcement for its March 20 event. The company's promotional video cleverly depicts an infinity pool expanding unexpectedly, suggesting a device with a screen that can extend to create a larger display area.
The teaser hints at a 16:10 aspect ratio, which could apply to various product categories including smartphones, tablets, laptops, or televisions - all of which Huawei currently manufactures. Given Huawei's history of innovative screen technology, as seen in their trifold Mate XT, a smartphone seems the most likely candidate.
The announcement was shared on Huawei's official Weibo account, mentioning the Pura smartphone range and "intelligent driving" features. Additionally, Huawei CEO Richard Yu has recently teased the Huawei Pocket 3, which is rumored to feature a unique 3:2 aspect ratio internal display.
Rollable display technology has gained significant attention in recent years:
- Motorola showcased the Rizr rollable smartphone concept
- Samsung, Oppo, and Tecno have explored similar technology
- LG developed rollable TVs and smartphones before exiting the mobile market
- Lenovo demonstrated a laptop with a vertical-expanding rollable screen
The March 20 event in China could mark a significant milestone as one of the first commercial releases of a rollable screen device, moving beyond the concept phase into actual consumer products.
