Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 joins Netflix's streaming library alongside its existing availability on Max, marking an unexpected move for the Warner Bros. production. The Western epic, directed by and starring Kevin Costner, had a theatrical release on June 28, 2024, earning $38 million against its $50 million budget.

While Netflix previously offered to acquire rights to the entire saga and fund Chapters 3 and 4, Costner declined, preferring theatrical releases. However, following Chapter 1's underwhelming box office performance, Warner Bros. removed Chapter 2 from its release calendar, though it still premiered at the 2024 Venice International Film Festival.

Costner has only partially filmed Chapter 3 and is actively seeking funding to complete both Chapters 3 and 4. In his own words: "I'm going to make 3... I don't know how I'm going to do it, but I'm going to make it, and then I'm going to make the fourth one."

The film's performance on Netflix could potentially influence future discussions about the streaming platform's involvement in subsequent chapters of the saga. Currently, viewers can stream Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 on both Netflix and Max.

Note: The situation remains fluid as Costner continues meeting with potential investors to secure funding for the remaining chapters of his ambitious Western project.
