TF2 Custom Hitsounds: Installation Guide and Troubleshooting Tips

Custom TF2 hitsounds provide audio feedback when damaging opponents. Here's how to set them up and customize them properly.

Installation Steps:

  1. Navigate to tf\custom\customfolder\sound\ui
  2. Add your sound files in .wav format (16-bit)
  3. Name files appropriately:
    • For hit sounds: hitsound.wav
    • For kill sounds: killsound.wav

Available Hit Sound Types:

  • Default: Boxing-match style tone
  • Electro: Three distinct electronic tones
  • Notes: Eight piano-like sounds
  • Percussion: Five drum-based sounds
  • Retro: Five 1970s-style electronic tones
  • Space: Sci-fi themed sounds
  • Beepo: Classic beeping sound
  • Vortex: Five choppy, extended beeps
  • Squasher: Crushing object sound

Useful Console Commands:

  • tf_dingaling_pitchmaxdmg: Sets pitch for maximum damage
  • tf_dingaling_pitchmindmg: Sets pitch for minimum damage
  • tf_dingaling_volume: Adjusts sound volume
  • tf_dingalingaling: Enables/disables hit sounds (0/1)
  • tf_dingalingaling_repeat_delay: Controls sound repeat delay
  • tf_dingalingaling_effect: Selects hit sound type (0-8)
  • tf_dingalingaling_last_effect: Sets kill sound type (0-8)

Important Tips:

  • Keep sounds short (around 500ms)
